HOW TO BE AT PEACE DURING A TRAFFIC JAM
Volume 13

If you live in any big city, being stuck in slow traffic during rush hour would probably be a daily grind. Impatience, anger and frustration will not help you arrive at your destination any sooner. But, what if there are ways in which you can arrive at your destination happier, more peaceful and more positive throughout the day?

Here’s How

  1. Relax! The key word here is arriving safely. Before you even start the car engine, tell yourself that this journey is going to be relaxing and calm, no matter what happens on the road. You can stick a note (“I am inner peace”) in front of you to remind yourself of the peace that you are.
  2. Accept that traffic jams are a part of life in the city. See the situation as a gift of opportunity to allow you to practice and develop inner peace, acceptance, tolerance, patience and detachment.
  3. Use the time given to manifest a positive and happy outcome for the upcoming meeting you are heading to via positive visualization. Make sure you can do this in a few seconds without closing your eyes!
  4. Enjoy the time spent alone in your vehicle and in your own space. Blast your favorite music and sing out loud with full emotions. Take this opportunity to bring out those creative vibes. You’ll be amazed at how this can easily raise your vibration for a productive work day and even when you get home.
  5. Graciously allowing a couple of vehicles to pass ahead of you will make you feel good for making someone else’s day a better one. Giving way is “giving” which releases endorphins which are the “feel good” bio-chemicals in our body.
  6. When you are suddenly aware of your flaring emotion, take 3 deep breaths and be aware of the “gift” to realize what we need learn. Go back to tip #2.

“Life always gives us exactly the teacher we need at every moment. This includes every mosquito. Every misfortune. Every red light, every traffic jam. Every obnoxious supervisor (or employee). Every illness. Every loss. Every moment of joy or depression. Every addiction. Every piece of garbage. Every breath. Every moment is the Guru.” ~ Joko Beck.
